My First Figure Competition – I Placed 2nd!
I can now call myself an amateur figure competitor! This past Saturday I competed in my first figure competition.
Walking on stage was almost an out of body experience. My legs were shaking, the lights were blinding, but I slowed my breathing down, took one nice deep breath and stepped out on stage with as much confidence and poise as I could muster.
I smiled at the judges and tried my best to be deliberate and take my time with my posing even though time seemed to speed up to the same rate as my heart, which was racing.
I came in second for my class. I am still in complete shock! Placing at this show is quite a feat, because I am a completely natural competitor and this was not a designated “natural” show.
Here’s a little glimpse into my experience at my first show. Do you have a dream? No matter what it is, approach your dream on a path that you can be proud of!
When you achieve it, you will feel that much more empowered, succesful and proud of yourself.
If you have dreams of getting into the best shape of your life, or dreams of competing, know that it will be difficult. It will challenge you physically, mentally and emotionally. Believe me, it was not easy for me. It still isn’t easy.
It is supposed to be challenging. It is supposed to be hard. It’s the difficulty of it that allows me, and you, to feel so empowered and accomplished once we have achieved our goals. I want the challenge. Don’t you? Don’t you yearn to push yourself just a little to see how much you can grow?
I believe that no matter what journey we are each on, part of that journey is to continually challenge ourselves to be our best; not only physically, but also mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
The end result does matter, but it isn’t what matters the most. What matters the most is the path you choose to arrive to the end result. What matters most is the path you choose to continue on. What matters the most is the next step you take on that path.
Get motivated to take your next step! Keep in mind I’m a regular person, just like you! I simply made a decision to get into the best shape of my life and I am following through each and every day with my diet and workouts. Get into the best shape of your life with me, at home, for free! Make a decision to change your life. One workout at a time. One meal at a time. Start here with BPM.Tv!
I’ve learned so much throughout this experience; not only about dieting and working out, but about myself. I’m now stronger physically, mentally and spiritually than before. This is only the beginning. Stay tuned for more!

My First Figure Competition – I Placed 2nd!
I met Cassey Ho, a fellow fitness video blogger. Her video blog, Blogilates, has been around for a while and she has a really great following! I definitely recommend checking it out for some great pilates based exercises and some really fun posts. She also blogged about her experience preparing and completing her first bikini competition.
Kristy Wilce is standing right next to me in this photo and let me just say, she is simply amazing. She is in her 50′s… that’s right… I said IN HER 50′s! She has a daily fitness blog as well, called Ready in 5 (weeks). She talks about figure competitions, fitness, nutrition and recipes. She is completely inspirational! Meeting her made it so I can’t wait to be in my 50′s.
This is me standing next to the first place winner in my class, Kelli Smith. She was such a sweet heart! She definitely has an amazing physique and deserved to place first in our class. I’m working on building my lats, shoulders and conditioning my thighs. I will wrap that in a package that moves even more gracefully on stage, and come back for my next competition! I can’t wait!

This video was def one of your most inspiring ones! loved how you really focused on the path people take and being proud. I think people forget the journey and that there are different ways to achieve your dream based on what’s right for them
on a side note, I always wondered why the competitors were sooo tanned but it looked like it washed off pretty quickly. does the darker tan help show muscle lines and shapes better for the judges?
and congratulations on placing!! you did work really hard and I personally am so happy you took the “natural” path!

Thank you so much Rebecca! The path is definitely the most important part of the journey. The destination is important too, but it’s the path that defines us!
